Meditation Moment

A nice meditation moment captured for that Gentleman. He was resting for sometime at noon time. And we were about six photographers spotted his photogenic face and impressions and started taking photos of him from different angles. This amazing place is a rest house in the middle of nowhere at Wadi Hitan (Valley of Whales) in Egypt’s Western Desert.

As you probably know, it’s very rare for me to capture a portrait, it’s not my comfort zone. But I couldn’t resist that situation. However, it’s a portrait with a landscape photographer’s touch. Even while capturing a person’s face and reaction, I’m still keen to have a background mountain and sky in the scene, it’s a major part of the environment.

Processing the photo was the hardest part of the whole story. Cropping the image to a meaningful shape was the first challenge to overcome. As you see below, I have decided to try the Golden Ratio Spiral tool in Lightroom cropping module. Although I’m not used to this arrangement, but I think it was a successful trial.

The second challenge was the bare skies in the original photo as you see below. Although we were in winter, but I was not very lucky. So I had to find a way for that. For the first time, I tried adding a sky from one of my other photos using Photoshop. If you can find the right sky with suitable lighting, it’s not a difficult process to replace the original sky.
